It is usually a solo time here, today was no exception. It’s always quiet and serene. The short walk from the gate to the house is lovely. Yellow butterflies were everywhere.

The mosquitoes weren’t bad, but I did heavily spray prior to walking or they would have been. No flies, a blessing. The day is a perfect October 70 degree blue-sky stunner.
I’m writing today from the location itself, Tibwin North, near McClellanville. I’m sitting on the front brick steps of the old house with a melancholy heart.

The house…is bad. No other way to put it. There is spray-painted graffiti all over the front, and throughout the inside. I sincerely do not think the house is recoverable at this point, even with a huge investment. The land will eventually reclaim the place.

The house is coming apart, collapsing. When I come down the lane and the tree line broke, and I caught a glimpse of the side of the house – I breathed a sigh of relief. I know that someday I’m going to take this walk…and the house is not going to be there. It was never in good shape, but now the bracings are also falling apart. The chimneys are all further separating from the house itself.

The metal Voodoo Man who protected this place is gone. Only his nail remains. This was the hardest thing to see, after him being there the last few visits, standing guard. I felt a great sense of loss and sadness that he’s not there anymore. Bad bad mojo for whoever took him down.

Former Voodoo Man Hangout
I was able to get some sad interior shots. So much deterioration.

Little details fading into history.

I had braved the stairs on previous visits, but it is no longer safe. (It probably wasn’t a good idea when I did it in the past).

I hate to think of what a stiff wind would do to the house in its’ current state.

Back of House

This was an outbuilding behind the house, that used to be standing.
If you’ve ever wanted to visit the house, don’t put it off. If you do go, be careful and safe. See my previous posts for older views, and much more history.
